2011 Are we ready for it?

2011....

Well friends of The English Man, here goes another year into the bin....we get older, we get slower, we grow in decadence and yet we are unable to grow in wisdom, in respect, in love and understanding. We'll hopefully get over this burden...

This year has left us with an outstanding list of events that would take us hundreds of pages to fully talk about them.

Nevertheless, we must concentrate in naming a few:

1.- Floods...everywhere!

2.- This "now permanent" crisis...economic and moral.

3.- Corruption cases to fill jails with nice elegant people.

4.- Natural disasters thanks to our intervention (not divine!!)

5.- Incredible discoveries (including some very well preserved cavemen and a new life saving vaccines)

6.- Barça beating Madrid again.....(this is something personal; but we must give a personal touch to everything we do!)

7.- Smart-phones, TABs .....and more. The digital era seem to be unstoppable.

8.- WAR---or at least a very possible one that will send all of us to hell or to heaven (you know naughty or nice, so you better think twice)!

But I am amazed in the way politicians and multinational companies waste our money...and I say "our" because everyone pays tax (or at least we mortals do....), buys stock, or just simply buys household brands; and when "our" money becomes theirs, well...

The newest and most bizarre "investment" is the test Google is putting it's new androids through. You might think: oh here he goes again, but believe me folks...putting phones to the stratosphere to make photos seems just a little too much....you tell me!

Anyway, we are all making our New Year's resolutions. Signing up to the gym, calling long forgotten relatives, going on a diet, forgiving our "enemies" and more....and if your resolution is to learn English, don't forget to visit www.theenglishman.es Contact them and get ready to have fun learning!

We at The English Man are sure that with a little help from our loved ones we'll have a wonderful time. Have fun and enjoy this new journey through time!

But don’t go monkeying around....

"T" minus two weeks

Two weeks to go....hang on to your hats!!!

Well....another Christmas has reached it's destination. People are already rushing around, TV ads promoting the latest fashion, toys occupy most of the aisles in the Hypermarkets, wine is offered as if it were going to be the last day you'd be able to drink it, seafood price hits the roof...

Amazingly shopping centres are bursting with people, "caganers" of an outstanding size are "sharing their spirit", and what I personally like is all those wonderful photos next to the 1
mt dump!

Outlets appear everywhere, as if Santa were giving them away. Enthusiastic shoppers practice weight lifting with all those "important gifts", "must haves", etc. For a moment we seem to be forgetting our debts, our personal situations; we all just rejoice with the collective madness.

Humans are the most intriguing of all the races...sometimes the most irrational in spite of all that has been said.

But, do not be mistaken; we at The English Man, love Christmas, the Christmas spirit and most of all the true meaning of it. Share, Love and Good Will to all. These "antique values" seem to have fallen back; time seems to have left them "behind", they don't seem to be needed.

It just feels a little weird.... all the fuss, all the hassle, all this lack of responsibility that we sometimes see.
Comments stated above might sound harsh, rude, too hard or maybe something The Grinch would say; to all of those who feel this way, we say: sorry, but it is something that we feel must be said. I just hope the three ghosts of Christmas do not visit me...or The English Man.

Nevertheless, we promote good will, happiness and laughter to all. May you all have happy Holidays and see you soon!

Remember to send the most important Christmas E-Cards and to buy your last minute presents. If possible from our bookstore!.

Once again:
MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY 2011

Barça vs Real Madrid

Well..this has been an interesting week. A lot of things have happened since Sunday Nov. 28th. For those of you who are from outer-space: Catalonian Elections, Wikileaks (US "not so private documents"), Barça winning 5 -0 and many more superficial "news" given to us by the so trust-worthy media.

Today I'm going to focus on our beloved Mourinho...as we say: he put his foot in his mouth!

Let's quote him: "It was nice going back to Barca with Chelsea and Inter but going with Real will be even sweeter..."

This comes to show that you've got to be very careful with words...I'm not saying: become paranoid....just simply careful, cautious, delicate, tactful. You never know what is round the corner...

Here is his explanation after the glorious game! Remember to right click and open in another tab so you don't leave us.

See you soon!!!

Conditionals...

This week a teacher came and commented what fun he'd had with a group at a company class. He shared his experience with all and it was just great. We asked him for permission to publish this, and he obviously, said yes.

It all began with the reviewing of the second conditional. He was using one of the school's techniques to review the acquired vocabulary and knowledge; when this bright young woman says:

"If I could choose any period of time for its fashion, I'd choose the stone age"! ...ok :*

The reaction was immediate, everyone looked in awe at this girl, and she reaffirmed her words:"I'd choose the stone age!"

The teacher said, that at this point, he'd been forced to ask;"why?".

This young woman says:"It's basically a matter of commodity. You have no worries, your husband or "man" is out hunting, so you'll eat. You entertain yourself with some crafts, and most important, fashion never changes....and it is very comfortable....!"

Now, if this young woman happens to read this...please forgive us; we just felt that it would be selfish of us if we did not publish this.....hope you understand.

To all readers, this is just an example of what the English classes given by TheEnglish Man. Classes have to be fun; they have to be entertaining and useful.

Here is a video to check the conditional out. Remeber to right click and open in another tab so you don't leave us. You'll laugh with the Big Bang Theory.
